Qui sommes-nous ? : The transport network for the Nice Côte d'Azur Metropolis
Nice Côte d’Azur and the Alpes-Maritimes department: a unique example of synergy within the transport sector
Transport is a major component of our commitment to sustainability. This is why from the beginning of 2009 the Metropolis of Nice Côte d'Azur and the Alpes-Maritimes department initiated a centralisation process in the name of their citizens.
The first concrete step in this approach, which is also an innovation at a national level, consisted in unifying the public transport networks of the two local authorities into one network: "Lignes d'Azur".
We felt this measure was the next logical step following on from the implementation of the fixed fare across the bus and tramway networks in 2008.
This process has resulted in the creation of the Azur orange card, the "Carte Azur" in 2011.
The creation of a joint management team for transport for the two local authorities has facilitated management and provided a global vision that is closer to that of the users of the "Lignes d'Azur", who now benefit from a more efficient service. The two networks have been made more consistent in terms of their routes, stops and range of prices, as well as in terms of their image, information and communication.
The synergy between Nice Côte d'Azur and the Alpes-Maritimes department has enabled us to make up for the considerable lack of development in public transport in our region, and to set a dynamic and irreversible process in motion.
