FAQ - Validation, Ticket Inspections and Fines

Validation rules #

  • Green signal "short beep": the trip is recorded, you are in order.
  • Red signal "4 short beeps": the ticket is not valid. You can see the reason for refusal on the screen. Present your support to the validator again. If the signal is red again, do not forget to buy another transport ticket in order to travel in order.
  • No light: present your transport ticket to another validator. If it still remains silent, we invite you to purchase another transport ticket in order to travel in order.

Validation is mandatory on each boarding, including in connection, for all travellers — occasional and subscribers alike.

It makes it possible to measure the number of travellers, and thus to adapt the Lignes d'Azur network to your needs.

Yes, all Lignes d'Azur transport tickets allow a connection with another line within 74 minutes: this connection must not constitute a return trip.

Since early April 2009, you have the possibility, on board the tram, to make one or several stages (within 74 minutes).

When you are in possession of several transport tickets on your card (example: a monthly subscription and Multi-Trip), the subscription deduction takes priority over all other transport tickets. Thus, you cannot travel as a group at the same time if you are in possession of a subscription on your personal card.

If the validator light turns red or does not light up, the procedure depends on the method of purchase of the ticket:

  • Purchase made at a machine or at an agency ("Ma Carte" or "La Carte"): Check that your card is still valid or that your trips have not expired. You can test your card on another validator. If the problem persists, go to one of our Lignes d'Azur agencies. If the card is not bent or damaged, it will be replaced free of charge; otherwise, 10 euros in fees will be required for the issuance of a new support.
  • Purchase made on your smartphone (Lignes d'Azur Tickets / Nice Ticket app): Access the "Get help" section directly in the app and select the problem encountered. If the proposed answer does not resolve your malfunction, use the "Contact us" button built into this same section. Warning: for quick processing, please do not send a complaint concerning the app via the classic contact form of the website.

In all cases: Do not forget to buy a backup transport ticket (from the driver, at a machine or via Lignes d'Azur Tickets mobile app (on Android  / on iOS ) and validate it to travel in order. This ticket may be reimbursed to you in the form of a free ticket if the material malfunction of your initial support is confirmed at an agency.

Inspections, fines and Offenses #

Failing to present a valid transport ticket, travellers must pay a fine. If payment cannot be made immediately, the inspector is authorised to issue a formal report and to collect the offender's identity.

Address and opening hours of the infractions office: Station Jean Médecin, Line 2, ticket hall level -1.

Open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm.

To consult the infractions and their amount, go to the "Infractions" page.

There are several ways to regularise your situation:

  • On the Online Agency, "Pay my fine" section: from 24 hours after the citation, if it took place from Monday to Thursday, and from Monday if it took place on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
  • At the infractions office located at Station Jean Médecin, Line 2, ticket hall level -1: open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm.
  • At the ticket vending machines on tram lines 2 and 3.

To do so, simply send a letter to the Infractions Office, at the following address:

Régie Ligne d'Azur
2 boulevard Henri Sappia
06100 Nice

You can also settle your infraction directly at the automatic ticket vending machines or via the website, section: Pay my fine.

You must validate your card, and do so every time you board one of our buses, regardless of your type of subscription (employee, student, free travel, etc.). If your card could not be validated for a technical reason, buy a ticket either at the machine or from the driver-fare collector. This will be reimbursed to you in the form of a free ticket in case of a card malfunction.

This systematic validation has two objectives:

  • Formalising the transport contract that binds you to Lignes d'Azur.
  • Allowing us to better manage the lines by adapting the bus frequency and their capacities according to the number of travellers using them.
